Behold the Broken & Mend to make New! Kintsugi Experience – Afternoon Session

October 19 @ 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm

Led by: Jon White

Afternoon Session

1:30pm START
4pm END

Artist Jon White is pleased to facilitate an immersive 3 hour Creative Journey in Modern Kintsugi.

The art of Kintsugi embodies new beauty made through imperfections. It’s an artistry of mending broken pieces through gold, symbolically representing how brokenness in our lives can transform to places of beauty. Instead of hiding chipped and broken parts, when imperfections are pronounced, symbolising the light, you behold something that’s more beautiful. It’s an art form of mending to make new.

In this “Kintsugi Experience” we’ll share a time of personal reflection with one another and beholding as we apply Modern Kintsugi techniques to a vessel we’ve brought with us. All participants are encouraged to bring their own broken vessel (not glass) and will receive all the materials that are needed.

Jon White is a contemporary seascape artist based in Falmouth, Cornwall. Having grown up in Cornwall he trained in the USA as a studio apprentice to international artist Makoto Fujimura before returning to Falmouth where he paints from his home studio and leads a creative faith based community called Atelier. Jon says of his work:

“There is a slow and rhythmic way I approach my work that often leads me to quick and intuitive bursts that bring a painting into its fullness. These ‘burst’s’ require a leaning into the intuitive over the rational. My hope is that my work provokes a sense of beauty, mystery and wonder to the viewer. Kintsugi has been an important part of this creative journey and my painting process. I love facilitating modern Kintsugi experiences for others to integrate the metaphor of kintsugi into their own personal journey.”
