Pulling Threads

October 12 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Led by: Jennifer Sturrock

It’s fair to say the world continues to find itself in a state of unravelling, an unknowing of sorts — of where we’re headed and what we once knew. Having removed all that is known from our perception, we are confronted with wild possibility, a place of unending opportunity, freedom to roam. For some, this is an exciting adventure – the incredible vastness of this landscape offers a place that rejuvenates our energy and allows sweet relief from other times or areas of life bound by predictable structure and formula… However, for a lot of us, it can be at times an affronting, challenging and uncomfortable position to find ourselves.

This workshop cultivates powerful imagination for hopeful futures – giving you practical, creative tools to turn ideas into reality in an age of uncertainty. Split into three sessions, participants will be led through activities, insights and exercises to build creative confidence and unlock their own unique creative expression. (Please note all are welcome, no creative training is needed prior to attending. Previous participants include: economists, lawyers, journalists, pastors, financial planners, students, consultants – and artists alike!).

Jennifer is a multidisciplinary artist and educator integrating textiles, fashion and poetry. Formerly running the Artist in Residence programme at the V&A Museum she has delivered talks and training with a range of organisations including the RSA, The Courtauld Institute and University of the Arts London.

She continues to collaborate in various forms of public engagement in the UK and internationally and is currently doing a practice-based PhD in theology through creative practice at Glasgow University.

“Thank you for a really useful and thought-provoking day” – Katy, Curator of Arts Collections, Science Museum (London)

“I went to one of her talks and it was beautiful to learn how she visualised the creative process. She’s a gifted storyteller. It resonated with me ever since and I have found ways somehow to apply that to my own process.” – Cyrus, participant of CreateFutures talk at V&A Museum

“Whatever it is you create it always starts with a blank page and dares you to venture into the vast unknown of your mind. There is no one I trust more than Jennifer to help guide me on those most frightening transformative and rewarding journeys of all.” – Voytek, participant of School of Unknowing course pilot module

Waverley Abbey House is a grade II listed property. The first floor (where most courses are held) and the second and third floors (where bedrooms are located) are reached by stairs. In the event of a fire, you need to be able to walk downstairs at an average walking pace, without assistance.
