More Than a Song: A Worship Retreat at Waverley Abbey

25 April @ 9:30 am - 4:30 pm

Cost: £65
Where: Waverley Abbey
Led by: Sarah Schrack and Samuel Jackson-Reed

What does it mean to live a life of worship, not just sing about it?

Worship was never meant to be confined to a stage or a Sunday. It’s the rhythm of our lives, the posture of our hearts, and the way we bring all of who we are before God. Yet too often worship is reduced to performance or routine, leaving us longing for more depth, honesty and creativity.

This retreat is an invitation to rediscover worship as a lifestyle. Together, we’ll explore the theology of worship, the role of creativity in the life of faith, and the importance of community and lament. Whether you’re a worship leader, musician or simply someone hungry to go deeper, this retreat will equip and inspire you to live a lifestyle of worship that is authentic and transformative.

What to expect

  • Teaching on the theology of worship and creativity
  • Reflection on the role of worship in the modern church
  • Space to explore lament, joy and community in worship
  • Practical tools for sustaining a lifestyle of worship beyond Sunday gatherings
  • A prayerful, creative environment to encounter God afresh

Waverley Abbey has been a site of Christian prayer and worship for over 1,300 years. Today, it remains a place where ancient rhythms and Spirit-filled creativity meet. In this setting, you’ll find space, not only to learn about worship, but to experience it afresh as encounter and transformation.

Worship Is more than a song

Meet the hosts

Sarah Schrack: Sarah is the Impact Lead for the House of Prayer here at Waverley Abbey. She oversees the various events and rhythms that make up abbey life, including worship. Having previously pastored a church and worked for several worship ministries including running Hillside, a school for worship leaders – Sarah continues to serve in the event management of David’s Tent, an annual worship festival, and regularly speaks on an itinerant basis.

Samuel Jackson-Reed: Samuel is a worship leader, songwriter and justice bringer. He writes, sings and speaks on the reality of following Jesus in a world riddled with injustice, and beautifully leads people into the truth of joy in the midst of sorrow. You can find his songs and musings on Spotify, Samuel Jackson-Reed, and on Instagram @samjacksonreedmusic.
