Every Day (and Everywhere) with Jesus

The Every Day with Jesus mobile app launched on 1 January 2024. One year on, more than 25,000 individuals from 137 countries had downloaded it, benefiting from relevant, inspiring, on-the-go encounters with Jesus.

The Every Day with Jesus Bible devotional has been helping people encounter God in their daily lives now for an incredible 60 years.

• It started in 1965, when Selwyn Hughes began writing postcards to help his congregation study the Bible. 
• In 1967, the first official Every Day with Jesus was printed.
• Over the next 40 years, Every Day with Jesus continued to grow across the UK and around the world, with an estimated peak of 2 million readers. 
• On 1 January 2024, the Every Day with Jesus mobile app was launched. Crucially, this app is completely free of charge, making it truly available to everyone, everywhere, every day.

It was a big thing when we launched the Every Day with Jesus app. It matters that we do it well. It matters that this app enables real, powerful encounters with Jesus. And, thank God, it does…

An answer to prayer

We are children of God, we need to connect with him. It’s core to our wellbeing as people. But it’s not always easy.

‘As a busy mum, my quiet time with God had become almost non-existent,’ one app user told us. ‘I was looking for a daily devotional that was short but still had great depth. This app is the best I have found… it helps me draw near to God, and ignites the desire to draw closer still. An answer to prayer.’ 

Nicholas had a similar experience. ‘I had distanced myself from the Lord through years of life distractions and was looking for a guide to help me relight the flame,’ he says. ‘This devotional aligns with my daily life and helps me focus on the Lord. Thank you.’ 

The format of the app has gone down well too. ‘This app is relevant, intelligent and delivered perfectly by presenters who speak warmly, at a comfortable speed and without being patronising or over-Christian!’ says one user. ‘Love it! So refreshing and yet the content is challenging and inspiring.’

A comfort when things are tough

Life can be complicated. Christians are not immune to hard times. Selwyn Hughes, creator of Every Day with Jesus, knew that. He lost both his sons, one to alcoholism and one to a heart attack; and, later, his wife to cancer. Sixty years since the start of Every Day with Jesus, it’s helping people navigate the hardest times as well as day-to-day life.

‘It has been a source of encouragement and comfort’ says Diana. 

Ruby says, ‘This app is a blessing. It’s kept me inspired and strengthened in my faith walk.’ 

Another reader reflects that, ‘Selwyn wanted everyone to be able to discover the joyful challenge of every day with Jesus’.

For the mountains and the valleys

The days of our lives are filled with ups and downs. Our stories are complex, they twist and turn. But God wants to walk it all beside us: Every Day with Jesus. 

As Ant puts it: ‘By living my life every day with Jesus, I find that I feel God closer to me. I feel that when issues or problems arise, I’m more equipped to deal with them.
